We guarantee full compliance with your investors, bankers and insurers ESG policies, through a rigorous process of yard selection and auditing, supervision and transparent documentation. We walk clients through the process hand to hand, covering all regulatory, commercial and operational aspects, not only for vessel delivery but including a Recycling Completion Certificate. Over 100 vessels have now been recycled under GMS Sustainable Ship & Offshore Recycling Programme. No fewer than 281 data points are collected and examined by our team acting as the ship owner’s eyes and ears on the ground.

Compliance

If your vessel is to be recycled according to the IMO’s Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC), our team is on the ground to monitor for compliance. Typically, HKC Compliance will include a full yard audit prior to recycling, Gap analysis, the Ship Recycling Plan drawn up with the yard selected, development of an Inventory of Hazardous Materials prior to recycling and a transparent audit trail for the disposal of hazardous materials. Our compliance monitoring team has hands-on experience from every vessel type – chemical to car carriers, oil tankers to OBOs, box ships to bulk carriers.

Supervision

Pre-selecting and auditing a recycling yard with an HKC Statement of Compliance is an important first step on the road to sustainable recycling. But a helping hand in the shape of a Supervision Team on the journey towards full HKC Compliance is often chosen by the shipowner to ensure the yard delivers on its promises. Working with the Sustainable Ship & Offshore Recycling Programme (SSORP), our monitoring team, with over 100 successful supervision operations now completed, delivers peace of mind on even the most complex recycling projects. Weekly and monthly reports provide evidence-based reassurance, together with a comprehensive vessels Completion Report.
